Some catching up to do... Shocking!

Okay, so hard to believe I know, but I am behind on blogging! I'll try to get everyone caught up on the current happenings...
First, on the drive up to Aunt Shelly's, we ran across some ducks (very friendly ducks!) on the Massey Road. Wayne LOVED them, and said "Quack-quack" the rest of the day... we could have touched one they were so tame!
Friday afternoon we went to Beppe and Pake's (my grandparents) and had coffee and visited with Aunt Shirley and her two girls Kim and Michelle. It had been a LONG time since we'd seen them, so it was really fun to catch up. I remember when Kim had young kids, and to know that they were in 7th-11th grade, made me feel old! (Although she looked no worse for the wear!) Anyway, the boys were pretty good, and Wayne had a blast eating 'nacks and running around with the other kiddos. (Below: Mom and Aunt Shirley)

An excerpt from a conversation I had with Tyler yesterday afternoon (he watched the boys in the morning...)

Tyler: The award goes to Weston.
Tanya: What do you mean?
Tyler: Well, it was looking like Wayne had it with the amount in his diaper, but then Weston came through and it was tied one all. They both stalled as the clock was winding down, then Weston came back and crushed the competition with two doozies, including one blowout all over his clothes. Weston definitely one the prize today.
Tanya: Oh, glad you were home with them!

Oh, and Wayne... I know we are teaching him to share, but I guess I forgot to mention to him that that DOESN'T mean letting Sadie (our dog) lick his sippy cup. That's just disgusting. I had a sneaking suspicion that was what he was doing, and I was right... Little turkey!

And finally, I deserve some serious blogging points for these posts! Whew... I think I'll take a few days off!

Memorial Day Weekend part II (Road Trip day 2)

And it's on to day 2 of the road trip! We woke up in the morning around 6:30 and got ready, then walked over to the continental breakfast. Tyler went to help take down the tent at the reception site, and the kids and I, along with Tyson and Breanne went on a Starbucks run. When Tyler got back, we packed up and left, going straight to the Airfield winery. I stayed in the car with the kids (due for diaper changes and feedings) while everyone else went in and tasted wine. The boys and I joined them for the last 10 minutes, and Wayne enjoyed looking at the airplanes, while Weston just smiled at anyone who would look at him. From here, we high-tailed it out of town, heading to Leavenworth (or however you spell that!) It was around 2 1/2 hours. Wayne got about a 30 minute nap in, which at least was good. We ate lunch together, then cruised the town for an hour or saw, and finally got ice cream before leaving again. With one final pit stop at Starbucks, we were home before 8pm. Again, Tyler and I couldn't believe how well both kids did in the car. We saw some amazing sights, and had a wonderful time. We realize now that it is possible to do overnight trips, and we are talking of at least doing one more this summer. Hey, who doesn't love some good old fashioned family fun?

Eating lunch... that was a bit of an adventure. The boys were tired of sitting still, and it was pretty warm. Wayne did better when his grilled cheese came though.

Memorial Day Weekend part II (Road Trip Day 1)

We started out leaving our house at 7am, with a caravan including us, my parents, and my sister Tara and her husband Ryan. First stop was in Mt. Vernon for gas and coffee. Wayne liked Starbucks, and especially liked Grandpa's coffee (Wayne drank it, Grandpa had to go buy another one!

We made it to our hotel by 3, and left for the wedding (the reason for the trip, not to mention family fun!) around 4. When we got to the location, we realized it was in the middle of cherry and peach orchards, at a house. They had a great place for the kids to play, and TONS of animals, which of course Wayne loved!

Stay tuned for day 2! I know, we are so fascinating, right? We did have a great time on the trip, and the boys did so much better than I ever dreamed. That said, it was a long two days, and I am pooped! Wayne actually asked to take a nap this afternoon, and Weston is napping really well today too. I know how they feel! Between the laundry, etc. today has been pretty full, but I am going to go catch a 15 minute nap myself before Weston wakes up to eat. Here are a few day 1 highlights:

• We heard the word "nack!" from Wayne about a million times on the way there... he was one hungry (or bored!) little boy.
• We paid $3.77 for gas in Mt. Vernon (Everson was $4.09)
• Toys and movies make Road Tripping with a two year old much easier
• Coffee is a necessity when you are driving that far
• Public changing tables are gross, and that's only if you can find one!
• The one thing I didn't want was for Wayne to touch the hotel room floor... which of course is where he wanted to sit all the time (can you see me cringing!?!?)
• While nursing can be done anywhere, it is certainly easier and more comfortable to do it at home! A sampling of our feeding locations.... Starbucks (next to 2 state troopers, no less!), the Jeep (this I can deal with), the grass in front of the hotel (our rooms weren't ready), on the grass up against a retaining wall at the wedding (my attempt to be discreet was lost on the folks walking where they shouldn't be!) and oh yeah... in the Jeep!

Memorial Day Weekend part I

We made the annual cleaning trip out to the cemetary to clean and put out flowers. Wayne was a helper this year, and jumped right in with his own scrub brush. Weston hung out while we all worked, and when we were done I took a few pictures of "the boys!" Wayne had a blast, and went for a nice run when we were all done (the sight of Tyler sprinting after him was pretty humorous!)

Busy, busy, busy!

Aagh! The Silves house is all a-twitter today. We are going to a wedding in Prosser this weekend, leaving tomorrow morning. It's our first family road trip, and the first time ever in a hotel with Wayne (and Weston too, of course.) I have a serious hotel phobia... the very idea of sleeping in that bad grosses me out (too many CSI shows!) My only comfort is that since the whole fam will be in the same room, there won't be much sleep going on anyway!!! If Weston has a night like last night, we are in trouble. (Boy, I bet my parents are glad I requested a room next to theirs! :-) Hee-hee-hee!) Today we are getting the yard done (Ski-to-Sea is this weekend, and we like to have it well groomed... the grass tramples less when it's short!) doing laundry, packing, cleaning the headstones and placing flowers at the cemetary, having a nice dinner, cleaning the Jeep so it's ready for the ROAD TRIP, and giving baths, laying out clothes, etc. Oh, and I have a baby shower to go to for my sister. Busy enough? Wayne is WILD, it's like he knows that this weekend is going to be different. He is just so darling... He had his hearing checked yesterday (it is fine.) My strategy before taking him in was to dress him cute, so that the Dr and nurses would see how adorable he is before he threw a tantrum over probes being stuck in his ears. It worked!!! They all thought he was beyond cute, and when he got upset, they were all quick to say,"I'm sure he's not usually like this." ;-) Sheer genious, that strategy was. What else... Oh yeah, packing for us. Packing for me is one thing, but two kiddos, one of which is his own everlasting fountain, is alot! Tyler thought I was taking too much, until I explained. His reply, "I guess that's about right then." Humph! I'll be sure to post photos and let you all know how the 4 hour trip goes, highlights and lowlights too!
