If it's going to rain,

at least we should be able to go inside!  Grandma Silves' house needed a new roof on it, and the family showed up in full force to get the job done.  It's incredible what can be done with just a few days of work, by many, many hands!  Last Friday they started at 12pm to tear off her old roof, and finished by around 8pm, and then went at it hard on Saturday, putting on the new roof, and finishing by 5pm.  Amazing!  Lots of the men-folk showed up and were on the roof (along with a few of their kids!) and many of the ladies came and either prepraed lunch, cleaned up around the house, or even worked on Grandma's flower beds.  The weather leading up to the event was sketchy at best, but Saturday was absolutely gorgeous, and Tyler even came home with a sunburn.Grandma was a trooper, hanging out outside most of the day watching everyone.  I can't imagine the pride she must have felt, watching all those strapping young men, her grandchildren, getting the job done and having a good time doing it.I love this shot... Tyler's working and is oblivious to the fact that Blake is watching him in awe!We stopped by for a visit and to see what tools Tyler had forgotten and needed me to bring back, and while Wayne and the other boys were supposed to stay in the car, Uncle Clayton felt sorry for him and got him out....  He never came back!  He ended up staying, with the Aunt's and Grammie watching him until about 4pm when Tyler ran him home, absolutely falling down exhausted from all the fun and sun.Duane, working hard or hardly working?!?  Just kidding!  :-)Foreman Tyler.  Since Tyler worked for a roofing company throughout his college career, he was the man with the knowledge, and was put in charge as foreman.  As much as they all joked that he should be sitting on a lawn chair with a beer, bossing everyone around, that was not going to happen!  Bless my dear husband's heart, he would much rather just shut-up and work.  Here's Wayne, pitching in and helping to load the dumpster.  This helps explain why he came home with every inch of his body covered by dirt.  Here they have the roof loaded, and are nailing down the shingles.  Does anyone find it odd that in order to put on a new roof to protect your home from leaks, you have to put in hundres of holes with nails?  Ironic, I tell you.And here's Wayne, with his prized possession of the day...  A container FULL of slugs.  Big, icky, slimy slugs.  Ulgh.  Unfortunately they "got lost" before he could take them home!!!

  1. We do have an amazing family! Sorry we weren't able to participate in the work day.

I started crying when I saw the picture of Uncle Clayt holding Wayne. Wayne's look is totally Grandpa Silves! There is little Wayne working at Great-Grandma Silves' house, never having met his Grandpa Wayne who grew up in that house. Wow! I can't believe how much this is getting to me.

You do such a great job at keeping up with the memories for your kids!

(I better get off this computer and get over to your house to pick up my little man.)
